I love that the band knew their song was cheesy, accepted it, and in turn made their music video for the song utterly epic-tastically cheesy. This song made me an official nerd fan of Family Force 5.

“Little Lion Man” - Mumford and Sons

You may have noted from earlier posts that music is one of the greatest sources of inspiration for me. Thankfully, some of my closest friends share that same passion. I credit one of my closest friends for showing this song to me. There is something raw and beautiful about this song that really hits home… I think we can all identify with that feeling of messing something up. Big time. Taking the blame is a step in the right direction, and the song makes me curious what comes next in the unidentified relationship. Nonetheless, the song definitely gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it, and I needed to share this with anyone who has an open ear.

It wasn’t until my last semester of college when I realized I don’t enjoy how the world seems to be run by national and global corporations. I realized that fixing all of the problems in the world can’t be solved by government. It’s solved by us. And one way we can fix the economy, for instance, is to stop locally. Support local shops you enjoy. Go to Joe Schmo’s bar rather than the fancy, multi-city chain. Enjoy your city and town for what it is and start from there.

One-take videos are really impressive to me. They take a lot of planning and a lot of dedicated video. Something that makes this video stand out to me, though, is that almost none of these people really had anything in common except for the school they attended. It’s so cool how you get a feel for the school, the students, and this feeling of fun on the campus.

The Difference Between Art & Design:

Something I have struggled with since I started my design path has been my inability to produce art. Or at the least, this is a self-imposed feeling, blocking myself from any artistic talent I may or may not have.

The design profession I’ve chosen has taught me a lot about myself, and I continue to improve dramatically compared to where I was a year ago. I have fantastic and encouraging mentors where I work. I read many blogs, magazines and whathaveyou about photography, typography, art, porfolios, advertising, etc.

But it is this entry that helped me better understand what it is I do with my job. It makes more sense, and I feel better.

Thank you to whoever’s random tweet I read that brought me to this page. I can’t even keep track of how I find things anymore. Anyway, check out the link. It’s a good read.

My design mentor sent this video to me yesterday. I hadn’t had the time to watch it until just now; it just put me in the greatest of moods.

The dude in this video traveled an unbelievable amount of land by foot. And he went into the adventure with a plan in a stylistic journalism sort of way. He had fun. And by the end of the video, you see who his inspiration to make the journey was. Thank you, both of you, for enduring something so big and making the rest of us realize we can conquer something that seems unconquerable.

I saw this movie tonight, and it struck me as such a raw, authentic love story with lots of realism and artisticness that just… blew me away. I didn’t even want to go see it tonight, and walked out loving this film.

Even in heartache and heartbreak, life and love inspire me.

It’s been a while since I’ve felt particularly inspired. I’ve seen a few things while walking around KC, or have seen a few neat things online… but now what I’m inspired by is the new design of the former Sci-Fi channel.

I used to be really bitter when I found out it was going to be called “SyFy.” I thought it was a terrible idea and would somehow make the TV station lose tons of fans. But now, my mind has been changed.

I’m inspired because an idea I thought was worthless has been put into action and made me take a 180 degree stance on it. Today I saw three short filler spots for the channel. Beautifully rendered. Very atmospheric music and sounds. Utterly simplistic. I’m convinced by the re-made logo and newer direction with the television station.

Times I've Been a Douche:

Something that I find very, very, very particularly inspring is utter honesty. The ability to reflect on things you have done and know when they were wrong. It takes a lot of reflection and dedication to start moving yourself in the right direction. I certainly have my own weak spots that need attention, but this post done by a band I appreciate helped remind me of what it is I’m called to do.
