Third Eye Blind
When people hear the name of this band, they always think back to when they first heard a song like Semi-Charmed Life or Jumper. Good songs, I’ll give you that.
But I remember when I was first diving into music… I had found a few good bands. One day, though, my friend Jimi let me borrow his cd of Third Eye Blind’s first album in 8th grade. I remember staying up late at night with my portable 3-second skip protection cd player hidden under my bed for me to listen to when I should be asleep. I remember listening to their first album, letting it play through. Eventually, track 12 came on and I was hearing “The Background” for the first time. I remember how empty and sad it sounded, but how I felt compelled to keep listening. The song took it’s time, and made me feel for the person singing it. And with the final verse ending, the song broke into a simple yet heart-wrenching guitar solo. I cried.
And that is when I first truly discovered my love for music.
Go check out their MySpace. They have new music and a tour on the way. And while I don’t currently have the song on this computer to upload, listen to the “The Background” someone posted on YouTube.
